The Insider's Guide: Are You OK helpline
The Are You OK helpline is a free, confidential 24/7 phone line and webchat for people impacted by family violence.
Parental Guidance Recommended for Younger Viewers.
The easiest way is to email Kaiarahi@justice.govt.nz with a bit of information about your situation and what you are wanting assistance with, and someone will come back to you via email or with a phone call if you prefer. You can arrange to meet with a Kaiārahi in person to work through what you need support with. You can also call 0800 COURTS (0800 268 787) and ask for a Family Court Navigator, or you can ask in-person at the service desk of your local courthouse.
While Kaiārahi do not give legal advice, they can help you:
• understand the language, processes and outcomes of Family Court proceedings.
• where appropriate, access out-of-court services and support in the community to help you reach agreement about the care of your children
• remain engaged and involved in any Family Court proceedings by working to address any barriers that are preventing you from participating
• with your agreement, connect you with other agencies and services in the community to support you as needed.
No, these services are free of charge.
Yes, all information you share with a Family Court Navigator will remain confidential.
There are Kaiārahi around the country who speak a variety of languages and will do their best to find someone to support you. If no one is available, there are translation services available, or you are welcome to bring a support person with you who can help to translate for you.
