Hurricanes front Wellington Campaign

14 August 2012

Hurricanes Julian Savea and Victor Vito feature in a new Wellington campaign against family violence.

Using the slogan ‘Violence is not our game', the rugby players appear on billboards, bus shelters and posters round the city.

Other high profile Wellingtonians in the campaign include The Laughing Samoans, Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, two Roller Derby Women and leaders from local refugee communities.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of family violence and agencies in Wellington where help is available.

The new campaign is a partnership between the local network, city council and the national It's not OK Campaign.

Police in Wellington attend five family violence incidents a day on average.

Releasing latest statistics, Wellington Area Commander Chris Scahill said this is at least five victims a day or 25 a week in the district.

A website (teritowellington.org.nz) and wallet sized brochure listing local social services are also part of the campaign.
