Marchers in step with non violence message

06 October 2009

All kinds of people promote the It's not OK message but the North Shore Leisurelites marching team would have to be the most colourful campaigners we've seen.

Leisure Marching brings together women whose ages range from 40s upwards. Many were marching girls in their younger days and although their skirts may have been replaced by trousers, they still share a love of marching.

The Leisurelites North Shore team promote the It's not OK campaign message on their polo shirts as they travel around the country in the Community Facilities Trust vehicle with the campaign logo on it

They recently joined more than 40 teams from throughout the North Island - average age of 65 - for the Leisure Marching Event 2009 at the North Shore event Centre.

The team also put up banners at the event to further promote the campaign.

By all accounts it was a highly successful and entertaining day with many marchers meeting up with women they marched with many years ago.

The Event Centre is also the home of the Breakers Basketball team, who are also supporters of the campaign. The campaign logo is proudly displayed on the play floor of the centre during their games.
