Real Stories Website Popular

13 August 2009

The number of visits to the Real People Real Stories website has been steadily growing since the website went live in April 2009.

The website features eight stories from the book It's Time We Started Telling These Stories which was published by the Campaign in 2008.

More than 1500 people had visited the Real People Real Stories website by the end of July, 1065 of those being first time visitors.

The hard copy of the book continues to be in demand since it was reprinted in May 2009 from organisations both within the family violence sector and outside it.

An exhibition of the artwork used to illustrate the book is touring public libraries and is booked out until 2010.

Telling personal stories of change has been one of the most successful strands of the It's not OK Campaign, Campaign Manager Gael Surgenor said.

"Many New Zealanders have identified with the eight courageous people who tell their stories of living and leaving a life of violence through the book and website."
