Statistics
Statistics show that New Zealand has a high rate of family violence.
Nearly half all homicides in New Zealand are family violence. Police are called to around 200 family violence situations every day - one every 7 minutes - but estimate that only 18% of incidents ever come to their attention.
Half all violent crime is family violence, this includes kidnappings and abductions, grievous assault and serious assault.
Recent statistics from a range of sources were collected from Police, research studies, hospitals and courts in New Zealand in 2009.
