Q:

How do I get help for my niece?

How do I get help for my niece? She and her kids are in a bad spot where there is violence in the home constantly; she said that it's her when I know it's not. Her partner is going to court soon and I'm hoping that this will put him away but she has to testify but won't.

A:

Hi from what I understand from your question there are a few issues that need to be addressed.

BUT FIRST

YOU ARE A REAL CHAMPION FOR SEEKING HELP FOR YOUR NIECE AND HER CHILDREN.

The best people to help or get help for your niece to work through all her issues are at community organisations like Women's Refuge.

When I was reported to Social Welfare by the school for beating up my baby when she was about 8 years old I hated everybody, the school, Social Welfare, the social worker, my daughter for not doing as she was told at the time, my life, everything and everybody.

BUT YOU KNOW WHAT

It was actually the crossroads of my life to look for and make changes to my life or carry on being a perpetrator of family violence. I had to confont my own fears and stepping out into the unknown of becoming a person that was violence free.

I HAVE NEVER REGRETTED IT

If there is any way that I can help your niece's partner I am only too willing. There will be men's/anger management groups in your area that will be able to help your niece's partner out now, while he is going through the court process.

You can get help for your niece and her partner from our toll free phone 0800 345 450.
